Categories
Categories (email.aimly.online/categories) are reusable tags used to segment Leads by industry, persona, acquisition source, lifecycle stage, or outreach style. A single lead can belong to any number of categories simultaneously.
Overview metrics
Four summary cards at the top of the Categories page summarize tag adoption across your lead directory:
- Total categories — total category tags defined in your account.
- Largest category — the category with the highest lead membership.
- Avg. leads / category — mean number of leads assigned per category.
- Empty categories — count and share of categories with no leads assigned.
Creating a category
Click Create Category in the top-right corner and configure its fields:
| Field | Required | Max length | Rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Category Name | Yes | 25 characters | Must be unique within your account. |
| Description | No | 200 characters | Displayed inline beside the category name to clarify how the tag should be used. |
Creating a category defines the tag without assigning leads automatically. You can assign leads immediately afterward from the category row, from the Leads table, or during bulk selection.
Searching, sorting, and managing categories
You can search categories by name and sort the list by Alphabetical, Leads (assigned count), or Created date.
Each category row displays its name, optional description, assigned lead count badge, and four actions from left to right:
| Action | Behavior |
|---|---|
Add (+) | Opens a modal with Existing, CSV Upload and Manual tabs. Imported leads you don't have yet are created; leads you already have (same email) are added to this category. The Existing tab can also remove leads. |
| View (eye) | Opens the list of all leads currently tagged with this category. |
| Edit (pencil) | Updates the category's name or description across every lead carrying the tag. |
| Delete (trash) | Permanently deletes the category and removes the tag from all assigned leads. |
You can also select multiple category rows using the checkboxes to delete several categories at once.
Deleting a category is permanent and removes that tag association from every lead that carried it, without deleting the underlying leads or unenrolling them from campaigns.
