Email Provider Overview
Aimly Email Mailboxes and Aimly Audit support two connection architectures depending on your email provider:
- Native OAuth APIs (
GmailandOutlook) — connects via Sign in with Google (Gmail API) or Sign in with Microsoft (Microsoft Graph). Aimly never sees or stores a password, and no manual host, port, or folder configuration is needed. In Aimly Audit, Sign in with Google is not available for a new mailbox; use a Google app password, or audit a Gmail mailbox already connected in Aimly Email. - Encrypted SMTP & IMAP (
Yahoo,iCloud, andCustom) — sends outbound mail over SMTP withSTARTTLS(587) and monitors replies and bounces over IMAP withSSL/TLS(993) using a provider-issued app password.
Always use app passwords for SMTP/IMAP
Major consumer and workspace providers reject standard login passwords over SMTP and IMAP when two-factor authentication is enabled. Generate a dedicated app password (or connect via Google/Microsoft OAuth where supported).

| Apple iCloud Mail | Custom + app-specific password | smtp.mail.me.com:587 | imap.mail.me.com:993 | Sent Messages |
Other (Zoho, Fastmail, private servers) | Custom + app/mailbox password | Provider SMTP host (587) | Provider IMAP host (993) | Exact IMAP Sent folder name |
Why the Sent Folder name matters on Custom connections
When connecting via Gmail OAuth, Outlook OAuth, or the Yahoo preset, Aimly handles sent-mail placement and folder mapping automatically. When connecting via Custom SMTP/IMAP, specify the exact case-sensitive IMAP folder name used by your server (for example, Sent, Sent Items, Sent Messages, or [Gmail]/Sent Mail) so outbound messages and Full Audits align with your mailbox's sent history.
