Gmail & Google Workspace

Gmail and Google Workspace accounts can connect to Aimly either through Sign in with Google (recommended) or via Custom SMTP/IMAP using a 16-character Google App Password.

Connecting with Google OAuth uses the official Gmail API for sending and reply detection — no password or server host configuration is required.

  1. In Aimly Email, go to Mailboxes → Add Mailbox and complete Step 1 (Signature & extras) and Step 2 (Rate limiting).
  2. In Step 3: Connect your mailbox, select Gmail as the Email Provider.
  3. Click Sign in with Google. If your browser blocks the popup window, click the Open the sign-in page link shown in the wizard.
  4. Choose your Google account and grant the requested Gmail permissions.
  5. Once Aimly confirms authorization, click Finish Creating Mailbox (Step 4 is skipped automatically).
Auditing connected Gmail mailboxes

Any Gmail mailbox connected in Aimly Email immediately appears under Existing mailboxes in Aimly Audit, allowing one-click Full Audits without generating an app password.

Option 2: Google App Password (Custom SMTP/IMAP)

Use this path if your organization restricts third-party OAuth apps. For a one-off Full audit, select Gmail in Aimly Audit and enter the app password.

1. Generate a Google App Password

  1. Ensure 2-Step Verification is enabled on your Google Account.
  2. Open Google App Passwords.
  3. Enter an app label (for example, Aimly) and click Create.
  4. Copy the generated 16-character password (spaces are optional when pasting).

2. Enter server details in Aimly

  1. In Mailboxes → Add Mailbox → Step 3: Connect your mailbox, select Custom (instead of Gmail).

  2. Fill in the connection fields:

    FieldValue
Email AddressYour full Gmail or Google Workspace address
    SMTP Hostsmtp.gmail.com
    SMTP Port587
    IMAP Hostimap.gmail.com
    IMAP Port993

  3. Advance to Step 4: Secure your mailbox, paste your 16-character Google App Password, and save. Aimly verifies both SMTP and IMAP connectivity before creating the mailbox.
