Outlook & Microsoft 365
Personal Microsoft accounts (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com) and organizational Microsoft 365 mailboxes connect natively through Sign in with Microsoft using Microsoft Graph.
Connecting via Sign in with Microsoft (recommended)
Microsoft disables basic password authentication across consumer Outlook and modern Microsoft 365 tenants by default. OAuth sign-in connects cleanly without passwords or SMTP/IMAP host setup:
- In Aimly Email, go to Mailboxes → Add Mailbox and complete Step 1 (Signature & extras) and Step 2 (Rate limiting).
- In Step 3: Connect your mailbox, select Outlook as the Email Provider.
- Click Sign in with Microsoft. If your browser blocks the popup, use the Open the sign-in page fallback link shown in the dialog.
- Sign in to your Microsoft 365 or Outlook account and approve access.
- Once Aimly detects authorization, click Finish Creating Mailbox (Step 4 is skipped automatically).
You can also authenticate directly via Sign in with Microsoft inside Aimly Audit → Run a new audit → New mailbox → Full audit → Outlook, or select an already-connected Outlook mailbox under the Existing mailboxes tab.
Connecting via Custom SMTP/IMAP (if enabled by tenant)
If your Microsoft 365 administrator explicitly enables authenticated SMTP AUTH and IMAP4 with app passwords on your tenant and you prefer protocol-level access, select Custom in Step 3 and supply:
| Field | Microsoft 365 | Outlook.com |
|---|---|---|
| SMTP Host | smtp.office365.com | smtp-mail.outlook.com |
| SMTP Port | 587 | 587 |
| IMAP Host | outlook.office365.com | outlook.office365.com |
| IMAP Port | 993 | 993 |
| Sent Folder | Sent Items | Sent Items |
Continue to Step 4: Secure your mailbox and enter your Microsoft app password. For nearly all Microsoft accounts, Sign in with Microsoft above is strongly preferred because Microsoft blocks basic SMTP/IMAP login on most accounts even with app passwords.
